Portal is the asset-bridge front-end for Wormhole, one of the longest-running general-purpose interoperability protocols. Users lock tokens on a source chain and mint a Wormhole-wrapped representation on a destination chain; redemption burns the wrapped token and unlocks the original.
Portal supports more than thirty chains across EVM and non-EVM ecosystems, including Solana, Aptos, Cosmos, and Algorand, which is unusual reach for a bridge. The W token governs the Wormhole protocol’s guardian set and surrounding economic policy, including how Portal evolves over time.
